100 Years ago – 1925

 Low water at the Power Plant reduced electrical output so much that local businesses did not have power.

75 years ago – 1950

Frank A. Howard was named State Highway Resident Engineer in Martinsville, to replace Richard Worthington, who had been over the area since 1946.

50 years ago – 1975

To mark the Bicentennial, First National Bank of Bassett published a book on local history. Its articles were published occasionally in the Martinsville Bulletin. The articles were written by Lela C. Adams, Douglas Belcher, R.P. Gravely Jr., Martha Pace Lawing, O.E. Pilson and Virginia Stone Windle.

25 years ago – 2000

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new Blue Ridge Manor, part of Blue Ridge Village which included the Blue Ridge Rehab Center. Edie Handy was the executive director of Blue Ridge Manor, and Christopher Oswald was the general manager and chief executive officer of Blue Ridge Village.

The Pulaski Furniture Corp. plant on Church Street was for sale.
