100 Years ago – 1925

The Martinsville base-ball team had a fine season, winning 16 of the 19 games it played. Fifteen of the games were on the home field and four away. Nine of the 12 active players were batting above the 300 per cent mark. The team was listed as: Lewellyn, Moore, Drewey, Eggleston, N. Morris, Hooker, V. English, Hurd, Mangrum, Whitener, J. Morris and Mosby.

75 years ago – 1950

Local mills reported much higher orders of nylon due to war-scare buying (Korean War). Fieldcrest Hosiery Mill in Fieldale, with manager E.H. Goode, was one of them.

50 years ago – 1975

Sam Craig of 605 Forest St. tended a triangle-shaped garden plot at Forest and Chalmers streets. Several other people helped him tend the garden which included petunias and cana lilies, going back several years.

25 years ago - 2000

At Larry & Alley, you could get a 30-inch Frigidaire electric range for $229.95, a 24-inch dishwasher for $169.95, a Frigidaire front-load washing machine for $595 and a Frigidaire washer/dryer set for $549.
