First National Bank of Martinsville advertised, “NOW All Deposits at the First National Bank ARE INSURED UP TO $10,000 (By An Act of Congress – Enacted Thursday, Sept. 21, 1950 … The maximum among covered by insurance, up to this date, was $5,000.00. This increase in coverage is made possible largely by the excellent safety record of bank since F.D.I.C. … Since the F.D.I.C. Went Into Effect THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK HAS PAID $69,510.88 FOR THIS INSURANCE.”

Martinsville Cablevision at 111 E. Main St. offered installation, which normally cost $10, for $2.49. Cablevision picked up 12 channels: On Channel 2, CBS-WFMY of Greensboro; 3, NBC-WRDV of Durham and Raleigh; 4, ETV-WUNC of Chapel Hill; 5, Local Time & Weather 24 hours a day; 6, WHEE Channel 6 of Martinsville; 7, CBS-WDBJ of Roanoke; 8, ABC-WGHP of High Point; 9, NBS-WSLS of Roanoke; 10, ETS-WBRA of Roanoke; 11, NBC-WXII of Winston-Salem; 12, ABC-WLVA of Lynchburg.
