100 Years ago – 1925
Millner’s Variety Store on Walnut street advertised “Summer Comfort Underwear For Men, Woman and Children. No sleeves and knee length for those who want them or ankle and wrist length for those who like them better. We have every style, so come pick the kind you prefer to wear. – Double Disc Records 35 cents each, 3 for $1. / White Denin Overalls for Men / Straw Hats 10 cents and up.”
75 years ago – 1950
Construction of the new $600,000 high school for Henry County Negroes was moving along rapidly, with expected completion in July. It was being built on a road leading from Horsepasture to Fieldale about 8 miles west of Martinsville.
50 years ago – 1975
Martinsville High School students attended a convention of the Southern Interscholastic Press Association in Columbia, S.C. Their “Perspective” won a superior rating in the general magazine division, and “The Barker” won an All Southern (higher than superior) in the newspaper category with schools with between 500 and 1,000 students.
25 years ago – 2000
Several hundred children hunted for Easter eggs at the Sportsman’s Club’s sixth annual Easter Egg Hunt and Cookout at Baldwin Park.
