100 Years ago – 1925
The Ku Klux Klan donated $200, a cross and a flag to the American Legion, during that group’s meeting at the county courthouse, to support the Legion’s fundraiser to help orphans of World War I.

50 years ago – 1975
Martinsville High School vocational students built a 64-by-10-foot addition to the shop at the Junior High School on Brown Street and then would go on to build a 24-by-10-foot foundry. Vocational teacher Chester Lane was their supervisor.
25 years ago - 2000
Carilion Health System’s facility next to the vacant Harris Teeter store (now it’s an active Food Lion) on Brookdale Street was under construction, with expected opening date in July.
