Men's Health Month "Be Part of History" Blood Drive

Celebrate Men’s Health Month with the Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society at its American Red Cross “Be Part of History” Blood Drive on Monday, June 26, 2023, 10:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M., at the Historic Henry County Courthouse!

Schedule your appointment at www.redcrossblood.org. If necessary, you may text or call John Phillips at 276-806-5022. First-time donors and those reaching milestones are especially welcome.

Throughout June, Men’s Health Month aims to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions. As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial that men get regular checkups and be aware of the risks for their age, ethnicity, and lifestyle. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 13.2% of men aged 18 and over are in fair or poor health. During Men’s Health Month, we urge men to take steps to enrich their health and wellness through proper screenings and care.

Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: Accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U. S. needs blood. Each year 4.5 million lives are saved by blood transfusions. General Guidelines for Blood Donation: Be in good general health and feeling well; be at least 16 years old (16-17 years old require parental consent), weigh at least 110 lbs., and have not donated in the last 56 days. More information is available at https://www.redcrossblood.org/.../eligibility....

The Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society owns and operates the Historic Henry County Courthouse which houses the Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Center & Museum. The Heritage Center & Museum is free and open Tuesday-Friday, 1:00-4:00 P.M., due to our generous donors and corporate sponsors, Carter Bank & Trust and The Lester Group. The building and grounds are fully handicap accessible. Keep up with our many activities at https://www.facebook.com/MHCHeritageMuseum.
