100 Years ago – 1925

 The Spring Drive for a greater Henry County Fair in 1925 was inaugurated at the Kiwanis Club meeting. Aubrey Tuggle was the fair chairman. Pete Ford was the fair chairman the previous year. The group talked about finding a larger fairgrounds which would give space for driving and racing. Tuggle said that if the 1925 fair were successful, the fair association should have $7,000 it could use to buy a new fairground.

75 years ago – 1950

A group called Ridgeway Sportsmen Inc. just had formed, and the group was set to begin construction on an 8-acre lake about 3 miles west of Ridgeway. The lake would be made on property on the road leading from Horsepasture to Ridgeway by damming up the headwaters of Marrowbone Creek. Officers of the club were Lloyd Doyle, T.B. Tatum and John Shumate, and they and other members of the board of directors were E.H. Knight, R.R. Young Jr., K.G. Tatum and George V. Conner Sr. The lake was being made for fishing and boating.

50 years ago – 1975

A fight broke out in the Waffle House in Collinsville. A 23-year-old from Cascade was thrown through a plate glass window, and a 24-year-old Martinsville man was taken to the Franklin Memorial Hospital for cuts to the forehead and left hand at 4 a.m. (The man who went through the window was taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.)

25 years ago - 2000

The Martinsville Safety and Transportation Commission has recommended that the city install a traffic light at the intersection of Mulberry Road with Spruce Street and Jefferson Street. It would cost $26,000.
