100 Years ago – 1925
The season had opened at the Patrick Springs Hotel, under the management of Mr. W.W. Hamilton. The guest cottages were filling to capacity. Big dances were held on Saturday nights. Amusements included bowling, quoits, horse-shoe pitching, bridge, strolling along the walks leading from the Springs, and fishing. The new owner had put new mattresses on the beds and also, something which was received with great acclaim: screens on the doors and windows, to keep out flies.
75 years ago – 1950
Construction of the $75,000 vocational arts and work shop on Brown street was underway and expected to be finished by September.
50 years ago – 1975
New 3-bedroom houses were for sale at Carver Estates. Billy Grogan was the builder. In Ridgeway 2 miles down Highway 87, Homecraft Corp. and Andrew D. Hodges Construction Company had new houses for sale.
25 years ago – 2000
The Rev. Ron Mateer was in his first month as pastor of First United Methodist Church, and he was heading out to spend 2 weeks on a mission trip in Russia.
