100 Years ago – 1925
Dr. H.S. Scott, who had worked at Lucy Lester Hospital, opened an office in the Brown Building on the corner of Walnut and Church streets. The Emory and Henry graduate was a specialist in gynocology and surgery and had worked at Bellevue Hospital in New York
75 years ago – 1950
Fifteen members of a caravan of the Virginia Travel Association stopped in Martinsville. They were given a tour of the town by Kiwanis Club’s New Enterprises Chairman H.A. Ford. The VTA promoted the tourism trade in Virginia.
50 years ago – 1975
On Feb. 21 Mrs. James M. Ingram of Colonial Drive, Collinsville, planted some “Iceland peas” she had bought at the seed store. They started blooming at the start of May, and by May 20 they were ready for the picking. It was the earliest ripened pea anyone around here had heard of.
