100 Years ago – 1925

At a meeting at Hotel Henry, initial steps were taken toward organizing a golf club with plans to lease grounds for a course on the eastern side of Lanier Farm. It would start out as a 9-hole course and eventually be expanded to 18.

75 years ago – 1950

At Finney & Payne Inc. – “Unlimited FREE PARKING Behind Our Store” – at 215 E Main St., Telephone 3444: “For Quicker, Easier, Cleaner, Safer DISHWASHING – See the Great New Hotpoint Automatic Electric Dishwasher. $18.95 down and small monthly payments. Load It! Set the Dial! Forget It!”

 50 years ago – 1975

Cheryl Sue Tosh, 13; Mark Tosh, 11; and Tommy Nagle, 12 went door-to-door in the Collinsville area to raise money for an injured man. They collected $90 to give to Daniel Edwards, the produce stand operator who was paralyzed from the waist down after an encounter with burglars.

The Community Hospital Board of Directors agreed to lease the old hospital property to the Sportsman Club for 20 years at $1 per year. The Sportsman Club expressed plans to use the building for recreation for the community. The meeting at which this was decided was held at Fayette Street Christian Church.

25 years ago - 2000

J&J Trains & Hobbies, a Boy Scout Authorized dealer, sold shirts, boys shorts, T-shirts socks, first aid kits, soap holders and more. The shop was on U.S. 220 South, across from Clarence’s Steakhouse.
