Program on Preservation Virginia and the Tobacco Barn Preservation Project
November 3 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Preservation Virginia, founded in 1889, was the US’ first statewide historic preservation group. It owns and has restored many historic sites across Virginia including Historic Jamestowne. It has saved more than 400 historic places. One of their recent projects has been the Tobacco Barn Preservation Project. Historic tobacco barns have been an iconic part of Southside Virginia’s landscape. Sadly, they have been disappearing. Preservation Virginia has been providing grants to restore some of the historical and architecturally significant tobacco barns and they have published a book, “Tobacco Barns, Preserving History in the Old Belt”. Sonja Ingram will be presenting a program this Sunday, November 3rd at 3 PM in the Historic Henry County Courthouse at 1 E. Main Street in Martinsville talking about Preservation Virginia and the Tobacco Barn Preservation Project. The public is invited. Admission free. Handicap accessible.
