Planned Giving

A gift to the Martinsville – Henry County Historical Society is a gift to the community.  One which will help to assure the county’s rich heritage is preserved for generations to come.  While we always recommend that you consult legal counsel or your financial advisor before making any major financial decision, we do offer the following options for your consideration.

 

Bequests

Through a bequest you can make a gift of assets to the Martinsville – Henry County Historical Society through your will.  A provision in your will that names the Society as a beneficiary of all or portions of your estate will assure that you will leave a meaningful legacy in support of our mission.  If you already have a will, you may wish to consider adding the society.

 

Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Trusts

Through a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust you retain an interest in the gift, with the remainder to be received by the Historical Society at a later time.  There may be specific tax benefits to you and your estate in utilizing one of the planned giving tools in support of the society.

 

Life Insurance

In the event that your life insurance policy no longer has the financial significance for your family’s financial security that it once did, you may wish to consider donating the policy to the Martinsville – Henry County Historical Society.  You can do that in one of two ways.  First you can make the Society the owner of the policy.  This may have considerable tax benefits to you today.  You also may name the society as the beneficiary of the policy.  While this option may not offer any immediate tax benefits to you, your estate may benefit upon your death.

 

Real Estate and Appreciated Stock

Your personal residence, a vacation home, commercial property, or undeveloped land can be donated to the Martinsville – Henry County Historical Society.  As with donations of appreciated stock, you may be able to receive a deduction for the full market value of the real estate, while also avoiding any exposure for the capital gains that have occurred through the appreciation in value of the property.

 

Cash

Cash donations are the simplest way to support the Martinsville – Henry County Historical Society.  A cash donation can be made by cash, check, or credit card.  The impact of your cash donation may also be enhanced through your employer’s matched giving program.  Please inquire if your employer offers such a benefit and take advantage of it to maximize your support to the Martinsville – Henry County Historical Society.
